Origin of Greenland’s Running of the Moskus Race
Kangerlussuaq Greenland is the logistics hub for PFS supported fieldwork across Greenland. The Running of the Moskus Race is a fun community event and proceeds from the race go to support the local school. The event is our little way of saying thank you the town of Kangerlussuaq for being such great hosts to our program and all of the scientists and logistics support that travels through their town
The first race was held in August of 2012 and was the idea of some employees of the original race host – Polar Field Services . There were 50 participants in the inaugural race and the number has grown steadily over the years. In 2015 we had over 180 participants. As they say, not bad for a town of 499.
The race is truly a Kangerlussuaq community effort. Many local businesses and groups, from tour companies to local artists and craftsmen, to the Kangerlussuaq school’s young student body, helps organize and host the event.
Message From our Previous Schoolmaster
